The Moonlight Gourami (Trichopodus microlepis) is a captivating freshwater fish known for its shimmering, silvery-blue coloration that reflects light beautifully, giving it a moonlit glow. Native to Southeast Asia, this peaceful and elegant fish is a popular choice for community aquariums due to its calm demeanour and stunning appearance.

With their tranquil nature and beautiful, iridescent appearance, Moonlight Gourami's make a wonderful addition to any peaceful community tank. By providing the right environment and care, these fish will thrive and bring a touch of serenity to your aquatic world.

  • Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended for a single Moonlight Gourami, with larger tanks being preferable if keeping multiple individuals or housing them with other fish.

  • Water Conditions:

    • Temperature: 25°C to 28°C
    • pH Level: 6.0 to 7.5, slightly acidic to neutral water is ideal.
    • Water Hardness: 2-18 dGH
    • Filtration: Provide good filtration with gentle water flow, as strong currents can stress these fish

  • Tank Setup: Moonlight Gourami's thrive in well-planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots, such as dense vegetation, driftwood, and caves. They appreciate a dimly lit environment, so low to moderate lighting is ideal, along with floating plants that offer shade.

  • Diet: Moonlight Gourami's are omnivores and should be fed a varied diet that includes high-quality flake or pellet food, along with frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Supplement their diet with vegetables like blanched spinach or zucchini.

  • Behavior: These gourami's are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive species of similar size. Males can be territorial, especially during breeding, so it’s best to provide plenty of space and hiding spots to reduce stress.

  • Tank Mates: Ideal tank mates include other peaceful species like tetras, rasboras, and small catfish. Avoid housing them with aggressive or fin-nipping species.
