The Bronze Corydoras (Corydoras aeneus) is a popular and resilient freshwater fish, well-loved for its hardy nature and distinctive metallic bronze coloration. Originating from South America, these peaceful bottom dwellers are an excellent choice for community tanks, bringing both utility and charm to any aquarium.

With their striking bronze coloration, easy-going temperament, and helpful scavenging habits, Bronze Corydoras make a wonderful addition to any community aquarium. They are especially suitable for aquarists of all experience levels due to their hardy nature and ease of care.

  • Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 15 gallons is recommended for a small group. Since they are social fish, it's best to keep them in groups of 6 or more, which encourages natural behavior and reduces stress.

  • Water Conditions:

    • Temperature: 22°C to 26°C
    • pH Level: 6.5 to 7.5, with neutral to slightly acidic water being ideal.
    • Water Hardness: 2-15 dGH
    • Filtration: Gentle filtration with a stable, well-maintained nitrogen cycle is key, as they thrive in clean, well-oxygenated water.

  • Tank Setup: Bronze Corydoras prefer a tank with a soft, sandy substrate to protect their delicate barbels as they sift through the bottom for food. Include plenty of hiding spots using driftwood, caves, and live plants. They also enjoy a well-planted environment, which provides both cover and foraging opportunities.

  • Tank Mates: Ideal tank mates include other small, peaceful species like tetras, rasboras, and guppies. They can also be housed with other corydoras species. Avoid aggressive or much larger fish that might stress or outcompete them.
